Twenty years ago, Janice Haley left her job as an administrative assistant. She wanted to leave the confines of a 9-5 job and rather spend her days in the open air.

It all began when she came across a local advertisement for a tiger training course. Two years later, she welcomed her first tiger cub into her home.

Today, Janice’s life revolves around her passion: tigers.

Every day, she tenderly cares for her giant companions. She hand-feeds them with a calmness that that makes us forget that these creatures are in fact apex predators. Saber, the younger of the two, exhibits a particularly strong bond with Janice, needing to suckle on her finger to fall asleep.

Challenges to Overcome

You’d think that the biggest challenge is to make sure the tigers get along with humans, but in fact it’s ensuring that the tigers get along with each other.

Her first tiger, Chauffer, sadly passed away in 2007. Following Chuffer’s passing, Saber was introduced as a two-week-old cub. The integration was met with initial resistance from Janda, while they’re still not best friends, they tolerate each other now.

It’s Not a Hobby It’s a Lifestyle

Keeping tigers comes with a mountain of responsibilities and constant learning. Her journey began unexpectedly but has grown into a passionate endeavor to provide a safe and nurturing environment for her beloved big cats.
