Cali faced many difficulties on her road to recovery because she needed to rediscover her instincts and adjust to her natural environment. The committed team put forth endless effort to give her the attention and stimulation she needed to speed up her recuperation.

Generally jaguars are known for their solitary nature and rehabilitating them to adapt to a life in the wild can be a very complex process.
A New Home
Cali was given the opportunity to run, jump, and climb in a roomy and secure cage, which was designed to guarantee her well-being and eventual return to the wild. Her enclosure measured an amazing sixteen meters, so she had plenty of room to grow both her muscles and her instincts.
Truth
When Cali was shown around her new, bigger enclosure, the time for truth arrived. She cautiously started to investigate her surroundings. She began to run freely, climbing trees and enjoying her newfound freedom as her confidence increased. For the rescue team, it was an extremely fulfilling experience. Apparently, seeing her take in her first taste of wild life.

Interesting Fact: Jaguars are territorial animals. Thus Cali’s exploration of her new territory was a vital part of her rehabilitation process. What a wonderful privilege to have the freedom to explore.
The Road to Independence
Cali made incredible progress, becoming more self-reliant each day. We appreciate the team’s help and the sanctuary’s collaboration with the Marine National Park. She was thus headed toward becoming a role model for strength and resiliency.
